The VCR came to my door, I took it out of the box, plugged it to my coaxial F plug on my old television set, whichД«y the way, is the only plug I have on the TV set to plug into a VCR and I was able to start watching movies right away. This is the easiest VCR to purchase and hook up. This is the first time I have written a review for anything I have purchased on AmazonД«ut, I wanted to write this review, because if you are like me and still have analog television and watch VHS movies Your mileage, of course, will vary in that regard. It even had the little Sony tech support sticker. It was clean, with virtually no marks or blemishes. The one I purchased was used, and listed as 'very good.' It was a very accurate assessment. I'm not going to record anything with it so I can't speak to that, but purely as a playback device it's great. Fast-forwarding and rewinding are very good as well. It's very quiet - somewhat quieter than I remember VCRs being - and tape loading and unloading is speedy. Speaking specifically to this unit, the controls are intuitive and responsive. But still, with that in mind, the picture quality produced by this unit is pretty much the best you're going to get out of a 15-year-old consumer-grade device. This is 480i analog, and for once the quality of your TV isn't going to make much of a difference. Now, obviously, you have to be realistic about picture quality, and if you haven't watched a decades-old home-recorded videotape in a while it's going to be jarring. Finally, I hooked it up to my A/V receiver (which I'd kind of hoped to avoid because getting at the inputs is a bear), and voila.

The USB video capture device I have didn't have drivers for MacOS Mojave or Windows 10. My TV didn't want to cooperate - it has a 3.5mm A/V jack and I have an RCA-to-3.5mm, but it produced no video or audio. The hardest part, of course, is finding something to play it on. I settled on this one because it's a Sony and it appears to be the last (or one of the last) consumer VCR models they released in the US. I needed a VCR to do some video transfers so that I preserved the things I'd recorded over the years in the '80s and '90s before the tapes degraded completely.
